Canon S100 Digital Elph Redux
I bought a Canon S100 Digital Elph on eBay. The S100 was the camera that inspired future generations of compact digital point-and shoot cameras; it got me hooked on digital photography. I was burning a lot of film with my LOMO, and I used the S100 to practice composition. The S100 became my constant companion until losing it on a business trip. I’ve stuck with Canon ever since; to replace the S100 I bought a Canon SD110, SD1000, and now shoot with an Elph 100 HS.
the S100 I bought in 2001 was $499. 12 years later, I picked this one up for $20, with free shipping. At these prices, I might replace the others, too!

First Frame
I used to be in the habit of shooting 3 frames into the palm of my hand when loading film. A while ago I started shooting as soon as the film was loaded to see what would turn out. This was one of those weird leader shots before the film took.

Burn Frame
The first frame. Maybe the second. All the beginnings, the half missed shots and the happy mistakes.

Roxy Music album cover outtakes
Here are some outtakes from Eric Boman’s shoot for the classic Roxy Music album Country Life, and the shoots for the covers of Stranded and For Your Pleasure. These are some of the most striking album covers of the glam-rock era, and there’s something weird and compelling about seeing them in this half-formed state.
